Some teachers are using social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp (where available) to send and receive homework, send grades and messages to their studentes. They tend to ignore the existence of Learning Management Systems such as Moodle, WebCT, NEOLMS and the like.
What are your thoughts on this?
Are you using social networks in addition to your LMS or instead of it?

This may subject to purpose why to use the tool and features provided by the tool. In eLearning Facebook may also be used in someways.
They are not ignoring, they are combining informal learning at web 2.0 with formal learning at LMS, why?.. (part of the answer my thesis want to solve), maybe because they want to connnect learning in real digital context; maybe because are looking for recover his academic freedom

Thanks Eduard for you answer, of course the purpose is important, LMS such as Moodle have academic features, with educational purposes in its design, things that a social network do not have.
Thanks Ignacio for your answer. Combining LMS with a social network would be the ideal thing, yet I have talked to colleagues who refuse to use the LMS available at the university, and they would rather use Facebook, for unclear reasons.
Thanks Bruno, unfortunately I was not able to open the file that you suggested. The ideal use of social network is supplementary, not as a substitute of online learning systems or learning management systems.
