In the late 1920s the US War Department devised a plan to destroy the British Empire. American troops would invade Canada and the Caribbean to draw out the British Navy, which they then intended to destroy leaving the Empire undefended. The USA would assume influence in these areas and gain economically.
WW1 had caused insularity within the US and there was increasing anti-British feeling. The United States was also caught up in its own Imperial adventure. The plan was abandoned on the basis that regime change in the UK would be accomplished by Hitler. The American Embassy in London took notes on Britain for the above purpose until WW2. This process was reinitiated after the war, but not through war.

Nope, and never will. No worries on this one. I am living in the US. Seems there is a coordination problem to get much of anything done. We could be organizing online public elections snd distributing help to those in need. The US needs lots of support and encouragement at this time. The days of "the long sword" or "big brother" are over. This crisis is helping the US to grow up, and learn to work as a peer and friend, in an " I am ok, you are ok" model. God bless America! Many countries around the world are dependent on US tourists, imports, exports, positive attitude, technology, etc. I believe that our international friends will help us remember the sincere collective that we hope to become. America is just like an unruly teenager that wants to rebel. It is time for America to grow up. The current white house regime is almost over. Everyone knows.
It was nevertheless interesting as to the countries they wanted to invade. I am not a critic of America, Britain's record isn't any better, but was reading yesterday on the activities of USA's secret services and 1963 assassination in Iraq, Chile, Brazil. I think we have to be realistic too....
My perspective is always as historian and academic. There is no subjective angle, but evidence is everything.
