I completed a project and now i have submitted the total expenditure of the projects to my university (this project was funded by the external source). Now there are surplus money after meeting the entire direct cost. I did not take any money from their as my salary from this project. I am expecting this surplus money will be distributed among academics (who involved in the project) and university. How the money will be distributed? Do we need to pay share to the university as i am a permanent faculty ? Or do we distribute surplus money among academics?
Normally it should be shared among the Academics. You have done something rare, showing a surplus. This rarely happens, so there was probably no rules designed how to deal with it!

Hi Mohammed, ordinarily we will return the excess funds to the external donor or request a "no-cost extension" meaning that we will propose to continue the research (though for a shorter period of time) based on the study's findings and conclusions. In my opinion that shows you are a good steward of the funds provided and opens the door to a new proposal.
