Technology, tweaks and turns in has made a great progress in the Information technology sector for the last five decades, especially in the last two. At present, investments on AI in healthcare involves huge cost & risks in it, but would that be beneficial in the long run , would they be valid even after a minimum thirty years from today?
Unfortunately, we are still in the consumption of the theoretical developments of the period (1930-1960) (set theory, indecidability theorem, computability, turing machine, predicate logic, lamba calculus, neural networks, general relativity, mechanics quantum, systemic theory, etc.). these same foundations are not yet consumed (quantum theory, photonic calculation, etc.). To say that in thirty years things will suddenly change by a new paradigm, I will say no, .... the current world is too agitated by stupid problems, consumers blinded by the virtual things, marketing to sell anything, and sell virtual happiness on the cloud :) .... A new paradigm is necessary, it is old that one lost ... the natural intelligence which puts the life and the human in its preoccupations and to federate the humanity in his destiny ... search for peace of knowledge and tolerance! and discovery with intuition too .... that's what I think my dear
I would rather bet on knowledge increase driving the progress, not the "advanced logic". Although there will be algorithmic advancement, the push will be from data and machinery (look at all old methods becoming successful with time). I'm not sure if it will be called AI anymore, but I believe it will be supporting our discoveries and shape our intuitions ("natural intelligence" will be on steroids).
AI (uber)hype has already proven to come about in cycles. Are we heading for another 'AI winter' at some point in the immediate future? Sure. Even if we are 100% certain that 'winter is coming', can we pre-empt it somehow -should we? I don't think so.Would we be back on it further down the road? Sure, again. Would the new cycle have its own buzzwords that may be quite different from the ones we know today? You guessed it, sure.
If it's a 'career orientation' question you are really asking, you may indeed have caught the AI trend of our lifetime past its peak. Does this mean you shouldn't still pursue an AI-related carreer if you have the passion and skills for it? Heck no! If you were thinking to get into it for the easy ride to the top, though, probably not your best bet any longer.
