I recently read an article titled "Does supervisor mistreatment lead to subordinates’ incivility at work? Evidence from a cross-cultural daily diary" and would like to share my experience. As a white female professor at a historically black university in Baton Rouge, I've encountered significant obstacles in performing my job effectively. I've been asked to pay the secretary to prepare documents for my salary and faced unnecessary hurdles in grant submissions When the entire department is actively working together to prepare and submit grants for others. I have been pressured to include others' names in grants and publications. Others' publications in predatory journals are celebrated lavishly by faculty members, and I never have proper recognition for my work. Additionally, I've experienced mistreatment, verbal abuse, and derogatory remarks. There's nowhere to seek help for me. It's disheartening that diversity and inclusion aren't upheld equally for all, especially considering my immigrant background.
