This is not a good idea. If you do not observe troubles with ion current fluctuaion, which indicates broken insulation of ceramic, I would reccomend only bakeout - high temperature at vaporized, low flow of mobile phaze and keep nitrogen 40 Sheath gas, 10 aux gas (Thermo servisman advice). But "smoked" HESI or APCI does not indicate problems ion real. I have both sources - no cleaning no bakeout for four years with high load of heavy matrix samples. Keep in mind very usefull proverb - Do not touch running system.
