Hello.

After computing z-scores for the differences between means (I have within-subjects design, N=26) I found at least 1 outlier (1-2-1) accounting 3.8%/outlier of the distribution, in each of the 3 outcome differences variables.

I decided to Winsorize by replacing the scores with the next highest value. So an example between the Winsorized difference in means with the non-Winsorized is M=-5.00 SD=4.186 for Winsorized and M=-5.35 SD=5.067 for non-Winsorized.

I decided to conduct bootstrapped paired samples t-test for the pairs and was advised to Windsorize 'problematic outliers first, as they may otherwise have undue influence on means' ...

I am quite new to statistics so I am not sure whether this referring to the above process or would I also have to Winsorize the individual variables so that they are reflected in the bootstrapped paired t-test?

From my understanding, the bootstrapped paired t-test would not really take into account the differences between scores as I calculated it, so reporting the Winsorized means of the differences in scores wouldn't be representative of the difference, CI and significance found by the bootstrapped method. Moreover, the outliers for the individual variables are very different from the ones of the difference between means...

Would really appreciate it if someone would clarify this.

Thank you in advance!
