CKDu is considered as a new form of Chronic Kidney Disease that with unknown etiology (Manage, 2019; Athuraliya, et. al., 2009; Wijethungam et. al., 2013). Chronic Kidney Disease of unknown etiology (CKDu) mostly affects agricultural communities in Central America, South Asia, Africa, but likely also in North America and Australia. One such area with increased CKDu prevalence is the Medawachchiya District Secretariat Division of the Anuradhapura District in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka.
Preliminary studies were conducted to find the solution for preventing algae growth in the BWRO system.
Use of special type of clay pebbles were studied and the feasibility of incorporating additional pre-treatment unit which composed of special type of clay pebbles were studied.
A survey was done to find a suitable clay material for clay pebbles based on the capacity of their absorption properties on contamination removal.
Special types of clay materials from several locations in Sri Lanka have been already identified.
These selected clay materials will be used for making pebbles
Current knowledge on the impact of cyanobacterial growth in feed water and their contamination with product water were evaluated.
