One of the areas that are among the greatest future achievements of the 21st century is the creation of artificial intelligence, which will find applications in various types of information systems used in industry and information services, processing huge data sets, Big Data database systems, forecasting and managing complex organizations. Currently, innovations are being created in various fields of production and services, generation of new technological solutions. New technological solutions, including technical, product, process, organizational and other innovations in their essence are the result of creativity and creative ingenuity of inventors. If innovation is inseparably connected with the human need of creativity of intelligence and perhaps also some kind of artistry, then whether artificial intelligence in the future will be able to replace man in these types of human creative activity. Will artificial intelligence be able to learn artistry in the matter of generating innovative technological solutions, will it create innovative technologies according to strictly or generally defined determinants, defined variables, determined factors? Will artificial intelligence be able to generate innovative technologies as a response to the question asked for the Smart Data database system?

There are interesting methods about how innovations could be done being proposed quite often lately. Have a look at this paper published a week ago, for example.

There are no reasons to suppose that it would be impossible. Given that AI explains a machine how to generate innovations. This pattern (AI-machine) worked for the ML, it would be also possible for innovations.
I think that there are important questions Brian Barnard asked above.
But if they generate and people chose it still means they will be able to generate.
Machines can be much better in divergent thinking than people, because they can give more ideas due to having more information and fast speed.
Aleš Kralj , I agree that deep learning is an example of weak / narrow AI, but it's becoming fast in finding patterns which can help in finding novelties. Then it can be combined with other methods and propose new ideas after simulating if they are realistic by again finding patterns (if inputs are not known, we also wouldn't know to start). Our brains are flawed by evolution (just look at the cognitive biases) and I'm not sure if we should go towards "true thinking" meaning "our" thinking, especially now when we still don't have "right stuff" hardware to implement it at all, as Searle likes to underline.
We humans need some biases for sure, but machines can have an implemented (hardcoded) set of basic drives as "inquisitiveness" without being overconfident in the discovered data just because "I have found it" or "looks good to me because it's what I believe in!". I wouldn't call them biases.
Artificial intelligence (what man-made equipment/machines do) is the outcome of innovative technologies. Therefore, the former can't generate the latter. An example of an artificial intelligence is the 'ability of a computer (artificial) to process data (intelligence)'. Innovative technologies are just the efforts of man to come up with new things e.g laptops and firearms. So artificial intelligence can't generate innovative technologies but it's the vise-versa. But let me go a little out of the question; innovation has generally improved nothing on earth. In fact, the more technology increases, the more disastrous the world gets. Diseases, deaths, fatal accidents and lifespan reduction among others increases with innovation. WHEN MAN WAS STILL CONSIDERED MORE PRIMITIVE, HIS LIFE WAS SIMPLER, EASIER AND LESS STRESSFUL.

It is necessary to develop different types of ecological innovations, including energy, materials, architecture, recycling of recyclables, etc. Thanks to the development of various types of ecological innovations, the development of civilization in the 21st century will at least partially approximate pro-ecological sustainable development.
