I am designing metamaterial enabled antenna for wideband freq. I have antenna with wideband freq. bandwidth. Have a metamaterial at the back of antenna, but not able to get wideband when I put the metamaterial at the back. I tried introducing inductance, capacitance in my patches but still no luck. The application is wearable so cannot get very thick also.
Any suggestions or advise is highly appreciated as I am stuck right now, what else can I do?

The job not easy, iteration of antenna shape making radiation pattern repeat its shape also see spiral and fractal antenna or try wave antenna at the same time see S11 if it was need for varactor diode for matching. In future a submitted procedure for providing an a desire excitiation function for antenna elements, it hope's to be useful as an arbitrary chooses for working condition it was waiting for publication now days.
- When we using metamaterial,we need to keep in our mind these are frequency dependent item, thus it will if you directly put metamaterial with model you will not get desire result. for this you need to first optimize the metamaterial it self for required band with, which is a bit tough job but it is possible. many open literature/ book are available. Pl. go-through it implement it for archiving the wide band nature for metamaterial and the put on the back of your antenna. pl. note that you may have re-optimize the combined antenna structure.
Check the results of your metamaterial structure, to see what behavior it shows for wideband frequencies. There will be some tradeoff when you will combine the antenna and metamaterial.

Thank you Pratik, what is Metamaterial array? I have periodic patches on my Metamaterial substrate.
You can modify the shape of your unit cells. For example, in metallic patches square ring type of slots can be etched to achieve dual band performance.
1.Design a Metamaterial that will work in the range of 2 to 6 GHz.
2. Optimize its location on the back of the antenna.
3. Needs to some trade off.
For wide band antennas you can use vivaldi antenna with meta materials to enhance its properties. It is clear that the meta material patterns dominates the frequency response of the antenna then you need to change the pattern of the metamaterial.
You can also use Vivaldi antenna with metamaterials to enhance its performance.
