During the process of conventional wire rod rolling, it is common for scale formation on the wire rod. However is the scale important? We experienced a situation where the wire rod scale peeled off during the process. Can someone explain why this phenomena occurred? Can it be due to the chemicals used in the cooling water treatment?

these are oxides on the surface of the rod. They will be pressed into the surface, resulting in low quality of the wire and wear the rollers. Frequently, pickling is done to remove the layer, but also bending, brushing, shot blasting.
