In the single chamber air-cathode MFC (without PEM), why will the bacteria not grow on the electrode exposed to air ? Is it not easier to grow at a site that is readily exposed to oxygen ? So, If they do grow, would this not result in electron transfer at the intended cathode instead of at anode ? If this happens, will oxygen readily accept the electrons at the air exposed side resulting in zero potential difference across the electrodes ?
