Space is at a premium in cities and is accordingly expensive and difficult to secure for agricultural activity.

This is true, but often the use of high-tech and costly, so urban agriculture is spread in developed countries

in developing countries urban agriculture has a very long tradition. However urban space competes with many other uses and the income / utility from agriculture is limited and urban agriculture often faces challenges to compete with other uses. Here in the Pacific it is also that urban agriculture often is done on empty / unused land. Such land is more difficult to find as lang becomes scarce and reduces space available for urban agriculture.
