Hello everyone, I am trying to design a ring resonator in FDTD. I simulated the design and found transmission power dropped by increasing simulation time. Once I increased the simulation time the power has dropped from 0 dB to-7dB?
Anyone has faced the same problem?
I didn't find any relation between FDTD simulation time and power.
It will be great if anyone can help me out. Thanks in advance.
When running FDTD you always must make sure that your simulation is running long enough. Run the simulations multiple times, with different simulation times. Eventually your results will stop changing, only then can you trust them.
FDTD runs in the time-domain, so if you take your siimulation and end it to early, then not all freuqeuncies of light or not all of the field will have left the simulation area yet. Therefore your results will be inconsistent and depend on the simulation time. Once you are running it long enough for all of the fields to have decayed to zero, then it doesn’t matter if you run the simulations for longer.
