Why tissue volume reductions are highlighted by DBM cannot be approximated by GM and WM findings of VBM of same sample?

My DBM results of 116 SZ and 116 NC show a greater coverage of both WM and GM areas. However WM findings of them are unable to confirm by VBM/WM findings. VBM/GM findings are looks OK in both cases. How to evaluate this discrepancy?
