Hello, I was doing some literature review on Sensors. I have one general question to ask - I saw that some people shows the sensitivity per ppm as a function of Ra/Rg or some by %. even I saw some people are showing the same thing but using R programming. Why is that? is there any specific criteria for that.
You seem to have two questions. I don't know Ra/Rg, at least by that name.
Using R programming is fine. R is an implementation of the S programming language. It combines the power of more basic languages (Fortran, C, Pascal, and the like) with advanced statistical modules. This provides great power and flexibility in analyzing data. You can get much the same thing by using SAS. Programs like JMP are good if you are using a standard method and like the ease of a point-and-click analysis. Personally I hate the latter approach because it is too easy to have a magic black box. I stuff numbers in, some magic happens, and numbers are barfed out. You need to make a selection based on your skill set, available time, and available help. If you are a master statistician with strong programming skills with a bit of free time and a few friends that have been encouraging you to learn R, then I would suggest going that route. If you just like statistics and working with data then I would seriously consider R. However, I still find R frustrating and weird. I am more comfortable with SAS, and I find it easier to go from "I know nothing" to a working program in SAS over R. I can see programs like Matlab and Mathematica would work very well. All that said, if time is short then you need a point-and-click sort of approach. In this case please talk to a statistician. Even a point-and-click stats package can give you junk answers if you do not know what you are doing.

This could be a philosophical issue. Two faculty at SDSU prefer Ra/Rg. Two other faculty members figure that the first two are idiots and % is better. You need to figure out both scientifically and socially which camp you belong in. It may also be that it makes no difference. % = Ra/Rg*100 if Ra
