Why the sharp peaks in luminescence spectra of some minerals are named as R/N-line?

Such as ruby has R1/R2 peaks/lines in its luminescence spectra, spinel has R1, R2, N1,n3 peaks/lines, what the terminology of them? Are there some reference can be used?
