Why the photoionized ions are asymmetrical?
In a time of flight (TOF) mass spectrum, the atoms and molecules are photoionized and accelerated to a micro channel plate. In our experimental setup and also others, it is found that the shape of ions are not symmetrical. See the graph below, it shows that the signal appears with a quick decrease and disappears with a gradual increase. Also, there is some ring in the tail.
I want to find a explaniation and a formula to fit the shape if possible. But have no idea.
Who can give me some suggestion?
