0.5 is in the middle of the [0-1] interval, so it is a special value. 0 and 1 are also frequently used because they are the boundaries of the interval.

o.5 is central value of interval [0,1]. Most fuzzy systems are designed as 0.5 as intersection value of adjacent membership functions.
