I have been a research student for 2 years...during this 2 years, I was feeling so lonely and so tired...endless reading, writing, seminars and workshops...once in a while we meet great people, share ideas, that's it...what say you?
As discussed that tiredness feel when you are engage in a work like research but happiness feel as you are on the way of solving the problems. So when the problems is solved pleasant feeling come to the mind although you are tired. And in seminars you meet with the people with different backgrounds and sharing of knowledge and experiences take place which also the cause of happiness although you are tired

I agree with the previous answer. It has its moments of loneliness and its moments of interraction. Each researcher deals with it differently.
You might consider joining a team or a group with common research interests, where you may have more opportunities for interraction and cooperation. This will be useful for your research too.
Both answers above are very good. I used to consider some research projects as being in a prison But I stopped saying that because it only depressed me.
My solution was to seek out and only work on projects that really interested me. I missed out on some good projects, got scolded and suffered a few mediocre grades. But I was much happier studying what interested me. Life is to be lived, select those projects and colleagues that bring you happiness.
There is work and drudgery in any serious endeavor but if you are in a field that interests you --- you will survive and actually enjoy the journey. Good Luck!
I've found that while I am doing research I am so task focused, I forget to be lonely or anything else much. Since you are pursuing your own agenda in research, you are the expert in that and until you develop your own ideas and your own discourse and text in language, and can communicate your findings to others and invite discussion, you must stay 'lonely'. It can be a lone occupation for sure. I guess if you manage your time well and build some togetherness with others at times it helps. Good luck. Cathy Jones
