Older people are more likely to develop risk factors and severe health consequences from COVID-19, in the one hand. In the hand, Japan has the high prevalence of the elderly population in world and it has one of the low rate in the world.
By the kind blessing of God, I got an opportunity to work as a JSPS Visiting Scientist in Tokyo University during 1989 to 1990. I found that Japanese people are well disciplined, honest, patriotic , helpful, sincere, and hard working. As they honestly followed the guidelines of lock down, the mortality rate due to COVID-19 is very low.

Japanese people are very disciplined. Therefore, practicing of social distancing and wearing face masks could be the main reasons for low COVID-19 death toll.
Low COVID-19 death rate in Japan could be explained by high levels of hygiene practices, low individual autonomy, high humane orientation, the “low-contact” culture, high internet penetration, low body mass and a high number of hospital beds per capita.
As I was in Japan for few days, I realized that Japanese are the most disciplined people in the globe. They are very strict follower of any rules and regulations. They follow very healthy diet and most of them walk at least 5 km in a day which makes them physically fit. Though there is high prevalence of elderly people in Japan, most of them are way fitter than the people of 40 years of age in rest of the world.
