This is my first attempt to do the amphiphilic copolymer synthesis. The process is as follows: “Carboxymethylcellulose with DS of 0.7 (0.4 g) and AmimCl (9.6 g) were added to a 25 mL dried Schlenk tube with a magnetic stirrer. After stirred at 80°C in an oil bath for 2-3 h under nitrogen atmosphere, the LLA with various mass (the mass ratios of CMC to LLA is 1:2, 1:4, 1:7 and 1:10) and 10 wt.% DMAP were added into the tube in sequence. After reaction at 90°C for 16 h, the mixture was precipitated in ~180 mL deionized water and centrifuged at 10000 rpm to obtain precipitate. The product was redissolved in 20 mL DMSO and then precipitated in an ~180 mL deionized water. After centrifuged at 10000 rpm for 10 min, the purified copolymer was dried in vacuum freeze-drying”. The product yield was very low, only about tens of milligrams. I’m not sure if these are the right products I want, because they are difficult or even insoluble in DMSO, ultrapure water and other aqueous solutions.
