according to various research paper many researcher prefer soxhlet method for extraction of palnt material. i need some more information about this method.
Hi Kalyani, The soxhlet extraction method is quick and exhaustive. I find it also not as cumbersome as cold maceration.
Soxhlet apparatus allows isolation of desired oil even if it has limited solubility in the solvent & when other substances or impurities are insoluble in that solvent. What happens is a nonstop extraction of the oil by continuous contact with the solvent.
Of course, Soxhlet extraction requires a volume of solvent which reaches the siphon level & time until nearly all the oil is separated. Some may consider this as a disadvantage but this operation is more efficient than extraction by a separatory funnel.
Hello Kalyani. Soxhlet extraction is advantageous as it is an exhaustive method of extraction. It ensures that all the analytes are extracted from the plant matrix. On the flip side, the high temperatures of between 60-80 degrees used in it's operation may result in loss of some heat labile phytochemicals.

in soxhlet extraction will done by solvent and vapours and when vapours comes in contact to material it get penetrate easily and increase extraction. also small amount of solvent required as compare to other methids

For this purpose soxhlet extraction plays vital role to find out actual amount since the raw material is being continuously heated at the boiling point of solvent for longer period of time which gives highest extraction among all techniques of extraction.
