It is my own experience, recently when I submitted a manuscript to a well reputed Journal which immediately checks the validity of references and cross links them, showed that few of articles which were referenced were not validated though they appear in PMC?

Hi,
It could be because PubMed is a search engine, that although it is accessing primarily medical databases, it is still a search engine that could access more than just refereed material. The question is what is the source of the articles that you cited that appear in PMC.
