We live in a world in which powerful countries determine the pathways for disciplines that may flourish such as SMET " Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology ". These countries stress upon what is envisaged as "fast" contributor to adding wealth & thus power.
Social sciences are not seen, by the powerful, as adding too much to the sought accumulation of might and therefore, they are underestimated in the present era.
IMHO, with exceptions, social scientists in the so-called Free World are committing quasi-suicide by politicizing the disciplines. Moreover, so many self-identified social scientists are apologists for dictatorships --especially of the so-called Left-- that we lose credibility; but I hope that trends change for the better w/ time
