in photocatalytic water splitting, hydrogenation of C=C bond, Pt and Pd are more active than other metals. why is this? is it because their special electronic structure? if so, how this structure affect their activity?
Transitional metals Pt & Pd due to electronic structure and redox potential , variable oxidation states leaves their surface active for adsorption & desorption of H2 gas .
The most important advantage using Platinum and palladium highly active catalysts because these catalysts operate at lower temperatures and lower pressures of H2.
