A postdoc is a PhD research scientist working temporarily under the supervision of a mentor, commonly the principal investigator of a research project.
"The goal of a postdoc is to gain more training, experience and skills, before entering a more permanent science career".
Post doctorate is the highest academic qualification in the field of science, technology, art, social science and many more discipline in order to get fellows satisfied with all their desire and enthusiasm to deal with research and other innovative ideas and opportunities...I think it is the mind set of the fellows which make them dedicated towards their area of specialization of the study even after obtaining degree of doctor of philosophy(PhD).....I think people who want to have good academic records should go for doing post doctoral research with their specialized field...
My experience is that some people do this because it is very hard to find a job that they think is interesting enough so they accept a position like this because it helps them develop broader experiences which might be more suitable for looking for a job for later.
Doctors applied for postdoc first of all because they are researchers without real jobs unfortunately 😔, Second because postdoc is the highest academic qualification in the field of science and technology where we can join a research project that contains many objectives with a team group of high qualified researchers and scientists to publish many papers and improve the scientific research experience.

They may be required to give occasional lectures, and may sometimes be given a seminar to teach for extra remuneration.
