Hi all,

I've been applying for a couple of scholarships and also have heard of many colleagues that the number of publication plays and important role in getting scholarships, research job positions. I can see some scholarship reviewers might not be experts in the specific filed and counting the number of publication would be an easy and convenient task. However, I'm afraid that such a policy would encourage students to produce somewhat low quality/ high volume publications. The scientific literature is already overwhelmed with the innumerous number of papers and finding the true trends and citing the right paper becomes a mind-numbingly arduous task.

I am not sure about the situation for the PIs in receiving grants.

BTW, most of my information comes from applying for scholarships in Canada. I would love to know about other countries and I would love to hear your opinions and discussions in ways to improve the assessment criteria.

Bests,

Arash
