There are plenty of space available for making the procedure of building of a house less expensive, however, nobody in the world thinking about it and it is so weird. We know that the labor cost is high, so we can automate house making using some kind of robot. We can innovate some new technology in material and procedure in house building. Government do its best to force car manufacturer to reduce fuel consumption for example by using tire pressure sensor, but there is no effort in any country to make house building less expensive. It is a big question and I hope one day some engineers and companies work on this subject.
I am, and im trying to do this by using cheaper, sustainable and industrialized materials.
In terms of machine and technology, I think nowdays a large number of new technologies are utilized in developed countries but less in developing countries. However, using new technology doesn’t necessarily decrease the cost. In some industries it’s more expensive but more accurate and faster.
Besides, I believe with the advent of BIM, a vast number of human mistakes decreased and also the pace and quality of construction also is being improved. Accordingly, the chance of having cost overrun or delay on project is not much which leading project to be finished with lower cost and on time.
There are two issues that delay building automation: low repeatability - each building is basically a prototype suited to the environment; areas in which automation can be used are limited (eg 3d printing can be applied only to walls), thus the savings that can be made are low compared to the necessary expenses for the development of new technologies.
