Nanotechnology is our first try to fill the gap between theoric quantum physic-chemistry and man-made technology applied approach.

Our understanding of quantum world is reaching an enough level for develop materials or environments only available by nature itself.

We must to consider nanotechnology like a three stages.

First one is discovery; which was achieve a few decades ago.

Second one is development; this stage could be defined like our development of understanding of quantum mechanics.

The third one is applications; we are still trying to merge our knowledge in multidisciplinary fields. Currently on basic development.

Having Said that, the word nanotechnology is right now under a continues evolution, but is simple to understand if consider what it means, human massive reachable applications of quantum mechanics.

From a biomedical perspective: Nanoparticles (NPs) made of different materials specifically are becoming very popular to use as nano-carriers due to many advantages such as their flexibility in accommodating different types of drugs including genes and proteins, high hydrophobicity, control drug release, high drug accumulation in target tissues, ease of preparation, tolerability, in addition to their ability to improve the PK-PD profile of different drugs.

One of my research focus is Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), which offer added benefits compared to more common nanocarriers, such as the ability to guide the MNPs in the body through an external or an internal magnetic field, use of an alternating magnetic field to generate local hyperthermia that can heat up the carrier to trigger drug release in the delivery site and localize actives in the selected target, and most important visualize and track the MNPs using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). These advantages make them unique and very attractive to use in several biomedical applications.
