I am trying to grow rice in a hydroponics system containing 5 % Hoagland's Basal 2 medium (Himedia). My seedlings are turning yellow after a few days of transfer to the nutrient medium. What could be the possible reason for this and how it can be resolved?
The following reasons:
1. A shortage of nutrients: Older leaf tips are the first to turn yellow, followed by the stem and leaf, and finally the entire plant turns yellow-green.
2. Poisoning with hydrogen sulphide. Roots turn black and emit a rotten egg odour. Small, slender, plume-shaped white roots with a brown base on the old leaf stems.
3. Pesticide or fertilizer harm Crop poisoning is a result of improper usage of ammonium bicarbonate, ammonia, herbicides, etc. Bright yellow or golden yellow coloration will appear on rice leaves, occasionally accompanied by burn spots. Old leaves eventually wilted, leaving only 1-2 pieces of green leaves on the higher branches.
4. Yellow is a result of fungal infections. Leaf blight from bacteria results in yellowing.
5. Physiologically early due to the rice root system's biological activity declining. maybe yellow leaves
Dear Pooja Saraswat Hoagland medium is very poor nutritionally. Try using 1/2 Murashige & Skoog (1962). Good look!
