Microbial pathogens exhibit various modes of infection, and in the same way the host immune system variously responds to it. Still, many researchers just test their 'super' molecules/ super 'crude' extracts on just the few usual microbial strains. Most of the hit and trial studies aim at anyhow publishing the result with just something which many a times is a repetition of what has already been visited.
I think researchers are looking for some antimicrobial compounds that may be new or the old reported one. Testing on the few and known strains is helpful to provide alternate remedial materials. The study of even the same plant form different ecological regions may give different range of results.
Agreed. But partially.Many of these studies (repeatively) have found their way in bogus to authentic journals. Many of these lack controls, vaguely represented statistics, over exaggerated results voching promising prospects of plant bioactives. Some golden rules have to be set.

there are super bugs. many deseases are due to general microbes and they turns out to be a reistance development to the antimicrobials. in drug development studies may by synthetic or natural origins, the FDA demands for the antimicrobial studies on commonly desase causing microbes. so is many focuses on develoopment of antimicrobial activity in these common organisms, for more understanding please read the public health reports on infectious deseases published by govenments, AIIMS etc.
