I have prepared MoS2 nanoflowers by using ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate , thiourea and PVP. i get the nanoflowers but they are very aggregated or they self assemble. what is the possible solution to get rid of this problem. I have done ultra sonication also during and after the synthesis but there is no obvious results of that ?
Hi Wajha Ahmad, I think you may get better crystallization and prevent aggregation of nano flowers by reducing the synthesis time viz.6 to 8 hours instead of 12 hours since temperature is maintained 180 C. You can try and see the effect and then optimize.
From your image, it seems that PVP is not having enough control over growth of MoS2.
In general, if you would like to use ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate as Mo-source, I recommed you to first tune its shape (e.g. rods, spheres, sheets) and then do sulfurization. This two-step method will give complete control over final MoS2 shape and dimensions.

First, you should precize the preparation method, because it can provide helpful information. Anyway, such you know, formation of new phases usually occurs through nucleation and growth mechanisms, and I suppose it is the same in your case. So, if you reduce deposition duration (time of synthesis), I think you will be able to prevent the aggregation of nanoflowers.
In your work, flower-like MoS2 nanostructures were grown. The reason may be explained as follows that firstly, MoS2 grew into a layer-by-layer pattern along the preferred curly growth direction and forming a number of single MoS2 nano flowers and growth continued until a critical thickness reached and then aggregate. During the growth, smaller nano-flower or petal shape grains absorb thermal energy and start coalescing or fusing with each other to form bigger grains.
I am using hydrothermal method to prepare mos2 nanoflowers. I keep it for 12 hours at 180 degrees. I did it at 150 degrees but there was no formation of nanoflowers. So i think i should change the time of synthesis .
