In our experiment, the top of our ladder indicates 12,000bp, and in subsequent lanes we have samples where the band shows up slightly above the top of the ladder (however we know for a fact that the bands are less than 12,000bp). Why might this have happened? Does it have something to do with the dye front?

I did not personally perform the lab as the course is being offered online due to the current circumstances, so I might not be able to answer very specific questions about how the experiment was performed. In fact, it is my job to interpret the results and guess why the results from the experiment turned out how they did.
