Hello, I'm interested in MOFs these days, so studying the fabrication processes.
It seems that most of the processes include heating (thermal annealing, typically > 110 Celsius degree) steps, however, the reason for that is not clearly discussed.
Can someone help me with this?

MOFs act as active agents, especially in active food packaging, by improving shelf-life, quality, and maintaining the safety of packed foods. Antimicrobial properties, active molecule removal, and dishonestly labeled food products are some of the challenges faced in traditional food packaging; thus, the emergence of new materials such as MOFs can be a remedy to overcome these challenges. Properties such as good biocompatibility and non-reacting behavior with the host have made MOFs be an integral part of food packaging.
MOFs need heat and pressure to be fabricated so they almost prepared in autoclaves not in just beakers and they need long time in order to build up the framework

Abdelazeem Eltaweil So you mean MOFs need heat and pressure to build up the framework, right? Could you tell me more details why heat and pressure are required? Even though metal-ligand bonds can form at room temperature or ambient pressure, MOFs seems to need heat and pressure. This is the point not straightforward to me.
Solvothermal is one of the methods for preparing MOFs that needs high pressure and temperature. However, their is effective methods needless this conditions such as self- templeting method. However, upon preparing the same MOF by the two methods, the yield of solvothermal method is larger than self-templeting method. This behaviour can be explained by the high motion of the metal and ligand at high temperature and pressure, rendering the formation of the bond between metal and ligand is easier.
Reaction cinditions drive the morphology of MOFs, so during fabrication of MOFs we optimize time, temperature, solvent etc to get the desired morphology for given application.
