It is not that studying Physics, Chemistry or Biology is not important as studying mathematics. It is just that math has that certain abstract finesse to it.
Physics, Chemistry and Biology are what you call natural sciences as they help us in understanding the nature around us better. Mathematics is an art in itself. A good number of mathematical topics have no real practical applications but they still exist simply because they are appealing to our minds.
I think it is language (with proof ) of explaining theories (that are boring )

Every other subject whether physics/ chemistry/ geology/ history/ archealogy/ zoology...etc...etc...deals with some kind of numbers and euations....to prove the science....may be that could be the reason...without Maths it is difficult to equate anything

Niels Bohr said that mathematics is something much more than science, because it is the language of science".
The concept stems from the debatable conception of Platonism which grants the status of independence from our thoughts to mathematical objects. If mathematics are independent of thoughts according to this doctrine, then they are discovered and not invented. This also grants the argument that they stand above all other sciences since the other sciences rely in one form or another on physical phenomena and are not as pure as mathematics.
