In articles of the international journals it is common to see several citation for one idea in same parentheses. See an example from an international journals (Journal of Petroleum Geology, Vol. 36(1),2013) The idea and references are : “”The convergence along the Zagros suture has been variably dated as Late Cretaceous to Pliocene (Stöcklin, 1968; Falcon, 1969; Haynes and McQuillan, 1974; Stoneley,1981; Berberian and King, 1981; Koop and Stoneley,1982; Alavi, 1994, 2004, 2007; Hamzepour et al.,1999; McQuarrie et al., 2003; Homke et al., 2004; Allen et al., 2004; Mouthereau et al., 2012).”” The spirit of my question is : if the first author (Stöcklin, 1968) has mentioned and he is the owner of the idea why does it need to cite all other 13 references who do nothing excepted have repeated the previous idea of Stöcklin, 1968.
