If we can convert heat into different forms of energy, isnt it logical to say there are possibilities to extract it from cold as well? Suppose there is a source of heat, we keep on extracting heat from it,it keeps on cooling, i guess it doesnt have any limit upto which we can extract heat, so a cold object should be able to give energy.
The reason why this is not possible is contained in the 2nd law of thermodynamics, which itself can be derived by quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics.
Second law of thermodynamics strictly puts a directional perspective on the energy transfer between two bodies at different temperature. It is not possible to transfer energy from something "cold" to something "hot" without adding an external energy source. In fact, when a body is called "cold' it means it is receiving heat from a body/surrounding which is at higher temperature than it and that is the reason it is called cold. Energy can only be extracted when there is a positive energy difference between the two bodies.
In fact, heat provides energy whereas cold receives/absorbs it. Same as generator provides energy where as motor receives/absorbs it.
Nothing is impossible though, there might be some different arrangements that may extract it which are yet unknown.
