I presently hold the opinion, that there is a vast difference between Western and Eastern cultures/European and Non European cultures and how they view their elders.
Agreed and I believe the strength of a civilization is measured by how it treats its elders. Also this is recent phenomenon. Humankind for the first time have a growing aging population which upsetting previously established life cycles.
I'd read the latest evidence on this as demographic and political changes in societies have affected inter-generational relationships and it is certainly not as simplistic as you suggest. Also, you need to take transnationalism into account and how this has affected family relationships and the care of older people.
respect is somthing, just like love , it hase to come from both sides in the western country,s respect has to be earnd and is not there by nature. I also think that peaple are getting older with their valuws and norms while their children are also agingin with their own valuws wich nesserly dont have to be the same as their parents we see more and more 4 gerations living addults with each their own valuws .also the ivirement in wich peaple live is of influence how we treat our elderly
