Due to some reasons, including politic ones, the historical origin of the Thai ethnic people in Thailand has not yet been confirmed. For sure, there are similarities between Thai and Sino-Tibetan languages. Most linguists except those in China explain that their similarities were caused by language contact. However, this theory is not accepted by most Chinese scholars who insist that Thai is by all means a Sino-Tibetan language.
