Specifically where there is the notion of universals I am especially confused. It seems to me that the mind is a material analogue. My father had a stroke and his functioning was limited, his mind may not have been, but how much so is mind just the functioning of internal brain processes? Also are we simply just a reconstruction occurring in a brain and body, what does direct experience mean that it's first order qualia that we are experiencing? Does that mean that experience has a brainstate? These are guiding questions, there's no need to answer all of the questions but to those who seek to answer these questions it is much appreciated.

you are asking a lot of questions and I am not able to answer all of them.
A stroke is a damage inside the brain. The functionality of the affected part is limited. If the part controls motor functions we can observe partial paralysis. Other regions of the brain are not affected so their functionality is not restricted.

I am sure, that experiences have brain states. Qualia as an subjective experience (tautological expression) must have a representation in the brain. How could we realize anything if we do not have a kind of representation in the brain? The interesting and just open question is what kind of representation does have such a quale? I am thinking about that question.
If we are looking at a screen we have qualia and what we see is very different to the digital representation of the picture on the screen. We can see objects and not pixels with different colors. On the way between the screen and our qualia a huge computation of the visual scene has taken place. This process of computation takes place in the brain and the perceived objects are part of the network structure of the memory which are activated by the visual process.
