Electrons usually have higher mobilities thus velocities compared to holes, hence electrons will have larger kinetic energies which should lead to higher ionization rates, yet for some SCs the ionization rates are the same. Under high fields do electrons get promoted to lower mobility conduction band minima, is the reason or is there more to it?
This confuses me.

I think it is difficult to give a simple answer. For every case you have to look at the band structure and then calculate all the numbers Dr. Durrani mentioned.
