I am working on the Biginelli-like reaction between cyclopentanone, benzaldehyde, urea to form the 4-component product. During the course of the reaction a white solid which during work up does not dissolve in any solvent (boiling ethanol, acetone, chloroform, dichloromethane, methanol) is forming. Why is this? Could it be because of the amount of catalyst added?
