The attached figure is XRD curves of cold-rolled. NiTi with different thickness reduction. The three curves in the bottom were sampled from a plate with a diameter of 6 mm. The top two were from a 10 mm-size suqare. I did not perform any denoising or background removing operations on these curves. All the curves were measured using the same machine parameters.

Why the background and signal-to-noise ratio for the top two curves are comparatively higher than the bottom ones? Does that mean the larger the specimen area, the better the signal-to-noise ratio?
