I am working with yeast S. cerevisiae for alcohol production. I am trying to grow it on solid GYE media. It is able to grow on GYE broth but not on GYE plate containing gentamycin in both. Is there any reason behind that why is it so? Can anyone suggest other solid media for the growth of S. cerevisiae?

Are you using gentamicin both in liquid and in solid? As you only mentioned it for plates, I am wondering about any gentamicin susceptibility of your yeast strain...
GYE (Glucose Yeast Extract) media provides more permeability for cell growth while it does not occur in case of solid media. For fast cell division liquid media provide more vitality due to easy upatke of nutrients.
If you only have gentamicin in your plate that's probably the reason for the yeast not to grow. Gentamicin is an antibiotic that acts in eukaryotic cells. If you're using an antibiotic to prevent bacterial contamination, use ampicillin or other kind of antibiotic that only acts on bacteria, not fun/eukaryotic cells.
