In the case of carboxylic acid derivatives there are two possible reduction products: aldehdye and alcohol. Ideally we need methods for selectively accessing either product.

Use DIBALH for reduction to get Aldehyde
Or make Weinerb amide of acid and reduced with DIBAL

Majority of reducing agents start reducing aldehydes once ester has been reduced.
This probably is due to the carbonyl group both in esters and aldehydes.
Use reducing agents such as DIBAL to reduce ester only up to aldehyde.
