It is not possible to know their 'exact' formulae for calculation. They just give an overview. The same is so, as with the many questions about score calculation, with Research Gate itself. individual repositories differ in terms of 'types of articles', media formats etc. Some are more conservative than others i.e. ISI (Clarivate) versus Scopus (SCImago). Google Scholar is, perhaps, the least conservative (most generous). It includes book chapters, reports, theses etc in it's database - not just journal articles. I have been an active user of Publons for about 2-years. It is still developing from its original focus on 'reviews' only. It's 'metric' system is still a work in progress if you ask me.

There is no solution. Furthermore, if these indicators match each other there would be no sense to drive these different platforms. Each of them calculates the same indicators but on a different subset of scientific works. No wonder that results are also different.

I think that the difference between them is about the citations themselves. for Google Scholars, all citations are counted from indexed journals and from chapters or books or other references. But, for Scopus, only citations from indexed journals from this database are counted. Also, for Publons, only citations from indexed journals from the Web of Science and Thomson Reuters are counted.

Your valuable response is highly appreciated. It is a detailed excellent information to differentiate the criteria that these research platforms rely on.

It is not easy to focus on only a research platform. Unfortunately, some universities only consider scopus, while others only consider Google Scholar and few of them prefer Publons to evaluate applicants for certain jobs.
