Many IIH patients refuse and fear shunts. My plan above could be a potential alternative to be judged by controlled clinical trials. Currently 3 days drainage test is thought of as the golden diagnostic test. Based on positive results, a shunt would be implanted.

My question above suggests 6 -12 monthly periodical 3 days csf external drainage test to be put in systemic clinical trials as a long term treatment. If successful shunt technology can be directed to refine it to be a safe periodical external drainage as necessary and without repeated lumbar insertions and minimising risks of infections to nil.
