I was trying to dye hematite-TPM (3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (TPM) encapsulates 600 nm hematite cube) with Bodipy dye by swelling the particle with THF and dye mixture, then deswell, the fluorescence of the particle is slowly dimming and only last half minute when excited. Does anyone know what may be the reason of the quench? Is there something wrong of the bodipy dye with TPM or with hematite cube? I have searched some literature, says that nanoparticles will quench fluorescence, but the size of nanoparticle are way smaller than 600 nm in my case. I would be appreciated if anyone can give some clues.

Bodipy molecules are quenched upon dimerization. see ref. This is because the photo induced electron transfer is possible. Bod* + Bod -> Bod- + Bod+ . During the deswelling Dye tend to accumulate into the grain boundaries of TPM. In addition electron transfer to hematite could occur. please check the redox potentials.
But you are describing something else : the fast fading of the fluorescence. This is frequent under microscope. This is due to the high light flux in the field of view of the microscope and the absence of renewal of the sample. Bodily are quite resistant to fading.
There are few organic fluorescent pigment (fluorescent as an aggregate) that can be excited in the green. Try Quinacridone.

I agree with Robert that the aggregation of dye will quench its fluorescent signal. If your fading is not due to the too high light flux, probably you can consider some AIE molecules which have been extensively developed by Benzhong Tang.

Robert Bernard Pansu Ze Xiong Thanks for your kindly answers, I try the same method to dye PS particle, it works well, no fading in short time and last for a long time, but with hematite -TPM, it fades. Besides, when I change the object to lower magnification(which means lower light flux), the fluorescence last longer, like 3 mins.
You might have a photoreaction between the Bodipy and the hematite.
Bod* + Fe2O3 -> Bod+ + Fe2O3- -> Product
Fluorescent magnetic latex are proposed for sell. I do not know how they prevent the fading.
