I am reading one reference about synthesis of CZTSe nano crystals and a typical procedure was described below:
First, 0.5mmol CuCl2.2H2O, 0.25mmol ZnCl2, 0.25mmol SnCl2.H2O, 1ml Dodecanethiol and 10ml oleylamine were mixed and cycled between vacuum and N2 three times and heated to 180 C. Then 0.5ml oleylamine, 0.5ml Dodecanethiol and 1mmol Se powder were mixed together and added to the Cu, Zn, Tin precursor solution. After injection, the temperature of the reaction mixture dropped to 170 C and it was allowed to recover to room temperature.
Why can't this reaction be proceeded in open air? Is it to avoid the formation of metal oxides?
